Mast Climbing Work Platform Safety

Mast climbing work platforms provide a stable, full-width working platform that travels vertically on one or more masts.
MCWPs are commonly used for bricklaying, cladding, rendering, and curtain wall installation on building facades.
Operators must be trained by the manufacturer or an approved provider before using any mast climbing platform.
The platform must be erected and dismantled by competent persons following the manufacturer's installation manual.
The base and mast foundations must be designed and installed on ground capable of supporting the imposed loads.
Tie spacing to the building must follow the manufacturer's specification — ties resist wind forces and prevent mast deflection.
The safe working load of the platform includes the weight of workers, materials, and equipment — overloading is prohibited.
Wind speed limits are lower for MCWPs than for scaffolds due to the platform's exposure and the climbing mechanism.
A thorough examination by a competent person is required before first use and at intervals not exceeding six months.
