What?

Why?

Prevent fallsCladding installation at height is one of the most dangerous building activities.
Fire safetyIncorrect materials and installation have caused fatal building fires.
Wind hazardLarge panels catch wind and can pull operatives off platforms.
Legal complianceBuilding Regulations and Work at Height Regulations impose strict requirements.
Do Don't
  • Wear a harness when required by the risk assessment for the task.
  • Check wind speed before handling large panels — observe stop limits.
  • Follow the manufacturer's installation sequence and fixing specification.
  • Use cut-resistant gloves when handling metal cladding panels.
  • Secure all panels with permanent fixings before removing temporary supports.
  • Verify the fire classification of all cladding materials before installation.
  • Plan panel lifting to avoid swinging loads near operatives at height.
  • Secure packaging and offcuts to prevent wind-blown debris from height.
  • Inspect scaffolding and access platforms daily before cladding work.
  • Brief the team on the day's panel sequence and weather limits.
  • DON'T handle large cladding panels in high winds — observe the stop limit.
  • DON'T install materials that do not meet the specified fire rating.
  • DON'T work at height without appropriate fall protection in place.
  • DON'T lean out from scaffolding to position or fix panels.
  • DON'T leave panels temporarily propped without securing against wind.
  • DON'T cut cladding panels without dust suppression and RPE.
  • DON'T store panels flat on scaffolding where wind can lift them.
  • DON'T alter the fixing specification without the designer's approval.
  • DON'T throw waste off the building — lower it in controlled loads.
  • DON'T work below cladding without an exclusion zone in place.
