What?

Why?

Your legal dutiesCDM 2015 places specific duties on workers including cooperation, following instructions, and reporting dangers — ignorance is no defence.
Safer by designCDM requires designers to eliminate hazards at the design stage, reducing risk before construction even begins.
Coordinated safetyAppointing principal designers and principal contractors ensures safety is coordinated across all trades and phases of work.
Do Don't
  • Cooperate with your employer and follow site rules, method statements, and instructions.
  • Report any hazards, unsafe conditions, or concerns to your supervisor promptly.
  • Attend site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings as required.
  • Follow the Construction Phase Plan arrangements for health and safety on your project.
  • Use equipment, materials, and substances in accordance with training and instructions.
  • Participate in consultations about health and safety matters that affect your work.
  • Ensure you have the correct competency cards and training for your role.
  • Provide information about hazards you encounter for inclusion in the Health and Safety File.
  • Work within the safe systems of work established by your contractor.
  • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others on site.
  • DON'T ignore site rules — they are legal requirements under CDM 2015, not suggestions.
  • DON'T fail to report hazards — you have a legal duty to raise safety concerns.
  • DON'T skip inductions or toolbox talks — they communicate essential safety information.
  • DON'T work outside the arrangements set out in the Construction Phase Plan.
