What?

Why?

Falls from heightCamera mounting at elevated positions on buildings and poles is the primary cause of injury during security installation.
Hidden servicesDrilling for camera brackets and containment fixings strikes buried cables and pipes in walls and ceilings.
Fire safetyCable penetrations through fire walls for CCTV cabling breach compartmentation if not properly fire stopped.
Do Don't
  • Use appropriate access equipment for all elevated camera mounting positions.
  • Scan walls and ceilings for buried services before drilling for bracket fixings.
  • Maintain fire stopping at all cable penetrations through fire-rated barriers.
  • Isolate electrical supplies before making any wiring connections to the system.
  • Wear eye and hearing protection when drilling into concrete or masonry.
  • Use safe access platforms when working in ceiling voids for cable routing.
  • Test PoE systems for correct voltage before connecting cameras and devices.
  • Secure externally mounted cameras against wind loading at exposed locations.
  • Brief the team on the installation sequence and access equipment plan.
  • Ensure adequate lighting when working in plant rooms and ceiling voids.
  • DON'T mount cameras at height without proper access equipment in place.
  • DON'T drill into walls or ceilings without scanning for hidden services first.
  • DON'T leave cable penetrations through fire walls unsealed after installation.
  • DON'T stand on fragile ceiling tiles to access cable routes in voids.
  • DON'T make electrical connections without isolating the supply and proving dead.
  • DON'T use ladders for prolonged installation work where platforms are more suitable.
  • DON'T route cables across walkways without proper protection and covers.
  • DON'T install external cameras in high winds from elevated access equipment.
  • DON'T leave commissioning equipment blocking fire escape routes in plant rooms.
  • DON'T work in confined plant rooms without confirming ventilation is adequate.
