What?

Why?

Fall hazardsInstallation on exposed rooftops, towers, and facades creates serious fall-from-height risks at every stage.
Electrical safetyIncorrect installation or testing near live systems can result in electric shock or equipment damage.
Building protectionA properly installed LPS prevents fire, structural damage, and harm to occupants from lightning strikes.
Do Don't
  • Plan safe access for all roof, facade, and tower locations before starting work
  • Use fall arrest or restraint systems when installing at height on exposed structures
  • Follow the installation design prepared in accordance with BS EN 62305
  • Isolate and prove dead any electrical systems before making bonding connections
  • Use appropriate lifting methods for heavy copper conductor runs
  • Coordinate with other trades to avoid conflicts during facade conductor routing
  • Test earth electrode resistance values using calibrated instruments before handover
  • Protect completed conductors from damage by following trades during construction
  • Record all test results and installation details for the building handover file
  • Brief the team on the specific access and working-at-height requirements daily
  • DON'T install conductors at height without fall protection measures in place
  • DON'T make bonding connections to live electrical systems without isolation
  • DON'T deviate from the BS EN 62305 design without engineer approval
  • DON'T work on exposed roofs or towers during thunderstorms or high winds
  • DON'T leave conductor fixings incomplete where they could become detached
  • DON'T use damaged or corroded conductor materials in the installation
  • DON'T bury earth electrodes without recording their exact location
  • DON'T skip commissioning tests — untested systems may not perform when needed
  • DON'T carry long conductor sections in windy conditions without assistance
  • DON'T connect the LPS without verifying the main earthing terminal location
