What?

Why?

Prevent overturnDumper rollovers crush and kill operators — wearing the seat belt, managing speed, and avoiding slopes save lives.
VisibilityForward tipping dumpers obscure the driver's view when loaded — travelling with a raised skip causes collisions and struck-by injuries.
No passengersDumpers are designed for one operator only — passengers have been killed falling from dumpers in transit.
Do Don't
  • Hold a valid CPCS or NPORS dumper card before operating any site dumper.
  • Wear the seat belt at all times while operating the dumper.
  • Complete the daily pre-use check and record the results before starting work.
  • Travel with the skip in the lowered position to maintain stability and visibility.
  • Reduce speed on slopes, bends, and uneven ground to prevent overturning.
  • Use a banksman when reversing near pedestrians or in congested areas.
  • Follow designated haul routes and obey site speed limits at all times.
  • Report any defects in brakes, steering, tyres, or the skip mechanism immediately.
  • Tip loads away from excavation edges using stop blocks to prevent overrun.
  • Switch off the engine and apply the handbrake before leaving the cab.
  • DON'T operate a dumper without a valid CPCS or NPORS competency card.
  • DON'T drive without your seat belt fastened — rollovers happen without warning.
  • DON'T skip the daily pre-use inspection — it catches faults before they cause incidents.
  • DON'T travel with the skip raised — it blocks your view and raises the centre of gravity.
  • DON'T speed on slopes or rough ground — excessive speed is the main cause of overturns.
  • DON'T reverse without a banksman in areas where pedestrians are present.
  • DON'T take shortcuts off the designated haul routes across the site.
  • DON'T use a dumper with defective brakes, steering, or non-functioning seat belt.
  • DON'T tip loads near unprotected excavation edges without stop blocks in place.
  • DON'T carry passengers on the dumper under any circumstances — it is for one operator only.
