Non-Conformance Reporting and Close-Out
Non-conformances are deviations from the approved design, specification, or method statement. If not identified and corrected, they can compromise structural integrity, system performance, and safety. Reporting non-conformances is not about blame; it is about ensuring that defective work is corrected before it becomes a bigger problem. This talk explains the process and everyone's responsibility in maintaining quality standards on site.
- Report any work that deviates from the approved drawings, specification, or method statement.
- Complete a non-conformance report (NCR) form with a clear description and photograph of the defect.
- Segregate or clearly mark non-conforming materials to prevent accidental use.
- Do not continue building on or covering up work that has been identified as non-conforming.
- Notify the site manager and quality team as soon as a potential non-conformance is identified.
- Agree the corrective action with the engineer before commencing any remedial work.
- Record the agreed corrective action, completion date, and sign-off on the NCR form.
- Close out the NCR only after the corrective work has been inspected and accepted.
- Non-conformance reporting protects quality and safety, not blame individuals
- Never cover up or continue building on work identified as non-conforming
- Photograph the defect and complete the non-conformance report form promptly
- Corrective action must be agreed with the engineer before remedial work starts
- Close out the report only after the corrective work is inspected and formally accepted
