Description
The ART Assessment Tool is an Excel-based implementation of the HSE's Assessment of Repetitive Tasks methodology, designed for occupational health and safety professionals working in construction, manufacturing, and industrial environments. It provides a guided, step-by-step workflow that walks assessors through the evaluation of repetitive manual tasks Β£ΒΒ from identifying the task and workforce involved, through scoring frequency, force, posture, and additional risk factors, to calculating an overall exposure level and recommending proportionate control measures.
Automated risk scoring eliminates manual calculation errors and ensures consistency across assessments. As you enter scores for each body region and risk factor, the template instantly computes the task-level exposure score and assigns a colour-coded risk level: green for low risk, amber for medium risk requiring further investigation, and red for high risk demanding immediate action. Each risk level is linked to a library of pre-written control measure recommendations tailored to construction activities, so assessors are not left wondering what to do with the results Β£ΒΒ practical guidance is provided automatically.
Completed assessments can be printed to a professional report format suitable for inclusion in project health and safety files, toolbox talk packs, or regulatory submissions. The assessment history sheet maintains a chronological record of all assessments carried out, enabling trend analysis over time. If a task is reassessed after control measures are implemented, the before-and-after comparison clearly demonstrates risk reduction. The template supports multiple task assessments within a single workbook, making it ideal for teams managing diverse construction activities across one or several project sites.
