OWL List

The OWL List (Outstanding Work List) is a high-capacity snagging and defect register built in Excel for construction projects approaching completion or in the defects liability period. With capacity for over 1,200 items, it tracks each snag or defect by area, sub-area, discipline (Civils, EICA, Mechanical), category, responsible company and named individual, providing granular accountability for every open item.

Each entry records agreed and revised close-out dates, and the system automatically calculates days open and days overdue for items past their deadline. The live dashboard presents open/closed totals, completion percentages and overdue ageing bands (0–30, 31–60, 61–90 and 90+ days), giving project managers and commissioning leads a clear picture of close-out progress and where blockages are occurring.

An interactive person-based filter view lets you generate targeted walkdown lists for individual subcontractors or responsible persons, so site walkdowns can focus on specific accountability rather than reviewing the entire register. The template is designed for commissioning managers, project engineers and completion teams on civil engineering, building and wastewater treatment projects.
