Description
The Excavation Inspection Register is a VBA-powered Excel workbook (.xlsm) providing a complete inspection and compliance management system for excavation works on construction and civil engineering projects. The excavation register logs each excavation with a unique ID, description, location, excavation type (trench, pit, shaft, bulk dig or confined space excavation), maximum depth, start date, status and temporary works status, building a master record of all open and closed excavations on the project.
The inspection form auto-populates excavation details from the register when an excavation is selected, then presents 15 type-specific inspection questions drawn from a 75-question bank β each question referenced to the relevant standard (HSG185, BS 6031, BS 5975, CDM 2015, Confined Spaces Regulations 1997, PAS 128, BS EN 1997-1, LOLER 1998). Automatic depth-band risk escalation assigns Standard, Enhanced, High or Critical risk levels with mandatory controls specified per band, and completed inspections are scored with a RAG outcome: Pass (green), Conditional Pass (amber) or Fail (red).
Submitted inspections are auto-logged to the inspection register with timestamps and locked rows to prevent tampering. The dashboard presents real-time KPIs including total excavations, open/closed counts, total inspections, inspections with issues, fail counts and a depth band breakdown. One-click VBA buttons export the register and forms to PDF in both A4 portrait and A3 landscape formats. The system has capacity for 300 inspection records.
