Control Measures
- Order materials in the correct quantities to minimise offcuts, surplus, and waste.
- Store materials correctly to protect them from weather damage, contamination, and theft.
- Segregate waste at source into clearly labelled skips for timber, metal, concrete, and general waste.
- Reuse materials on site where possible — offcuts, packaging, and surplus items often have further use.
- Return unused materials to the store rather than disposing of them in waste skips.
- Crush concrete and brick on site for reuse as fill material where approved by the project specification.
- Use material take-off schedules to order accurately and avoid over-ordering of bulk materials.
- Brief the team on the waste segregation plan and the location of recycling skips at site induction.
- Monitor skip fill levels and waste records to identify trends and further reduction opportunities.
