Description

The Decision Matrix is an Excel-based weighted scoring tool that helps construction teams evaluate and compare up to eight options against a set of customisable criteria. Each criterion is scored on a 1 to 10 scale and assigned an importance weighting (also 1 to 10), and the system automatically calculates weighted scores and normalised percentage rankings to identify the strongest option objectively.

The dashboard view presents all options side by side with their total weighted scores, percentage rankings and individual criterion scores, making it easy to see where each option is strong or weak. This structured approach removes subjective bias from decisions and provides a documented rationale that can be presented to stakeholders, clients or auditors.

The template is suitable for a wide range of construction decisions including supplier selection, design option appraisal, equipment procurement, site layout comparison and subcontractor evaluation. Criteria and weightings are fully editable so the matrix adapts to any decision context.
