Description

The Productivity Calculator is an Excel-based daily output estimator covering nine core civil engineering activities: steel fixing, pipe laying, muck shift (bulk earthworks), formwork erection, concrete pouring, kerb laying, piling, road base construction and asphalt surfacing. For each activity, you enter the shift duration, gang size and a set of site-specific adjustment factors to produce a calculated daily output figure in the appropriate unit — kg/day for steel, m/day for pipes and kerbs, m³/day for earthworks and concrete, m²/day for road base and asphalt, or piles/day for piling.

Adjustment factors include site constraints (congested vs open), ground conditions (good, moderate, poor), equipment type and capacity, access restrictions, and regional productivity modifiers. Each factor applies a multiplier to the base output rate, so the final figure reflects realistic site conditions rather than textbook norms.

The calculator is designed for site agents, planners and quantity surveyors who need quick, defensible productivity estimates for programme planning, resource levelling and earned value reporting. Output figures can be used to validate subcontractor programmes, check tender allowances and support delay analysis.
