Description
The Ladder & Stepladder Permit is a dynamic permit-to-work system built in Excel for construction sites that need to control and authorise the use of portable ladders and stepladders. It runs 16 automated compliance checks covering equipment type selection, stability and securing arrangements, user competence, maximum permitted duration, overhead hazards, weather exposure, and ground conditions, returning a live PASS, FAIL or WARN status for each check with specific remedial advice where issues are identified.
The permit follows a four-stage sign-off workflow: Initiation (the person requesting the permit), Authorisation (the supervisor or manager approving the work), Acceptor (the operative confirming understanding of controls), and Close-Out (confirmation the work is complete and the equipment removed). Each stage captures name, signature, date and time fields, providing a complete audit trail.
Designed around the Work at Height Regulations 2005 hierarchy of control, the system ensures ladders are only authorised where no safer alternative is reasonably practicable. The permit form is print-ready for site use and formatted for filing as part of your project safety documentation.
